World Religion
Although eastern religions and western religions have a number of things that are different they all have at least one thing in common, they all give answers to questions of the soul. Things like where we come from? Why are we here? There answers may be different but it is still a huge commonality. This I believe is the main purpose of religion to answer these questions.
Through out this course we talked about 3 religions from the east, and 3 from the west. Each time we talked about a different religion, the human origin was mentioned. Although the way that each religion answered this question was slightly different they all seemed to involve a greater being or beings who where somehow involved in our creation. The eastern religions tend to have more Gods and look at the fact that the humans were a part of the Gods where as western religions tend to believe in one God and that we were made by God. Multiple western religions even say that we are children of God.
Also through out the course each religion discussed why we are all here in this life, or in other word what is the purpose of life. The biggest difference I found in the western religions and the eastern religions was the way they looked at life it self. On one hand the western religions look at life as a blessing and but the eastern religions look at life as if it is a punishment. But for the most part they have a common belief that we are here to be tested. Western religions believe though that we get one chance and eastern religions look at as if we will be here till we get the test right.
Although all religions differ greatly, specifically the Eastern religions and the western religions, they all share the goal of answering questions that each human ponders and desires about. They all attempt to solve the great mystery of our purpose in life, and where we were in the past. Religion is there to answer these questions.
